About The Position

The Student Marketing Assistant will assist in planning, creating, managing, implementing, and evaluating the social media and marketing communications for the Research and Economic Development Division. The student assistant will work under the supervision of the REDD Marketing Specialist to develop content for various mediums (ads, posters, brochures, web pages, social media, etc.) as needed. The Student Marketing Assistant may assist with event logistics. Students applying for this position should know and use a variety of social media channels — such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. They must have strong writing and editing skills. Video and photography skills are strongly desired. Applicants for this position must also be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and be detail-oriented.

Requirements

  • Must be a University of Wyoming student currently registered for the Fall semester
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP
  • Basic computer skills (Office: Word, Power point, excel) and ability to use/learn other software
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proof-reading and editing skills
  • Ability to work well both individually and as a part of a team
  • Demonstrated customer service skills

Nice To Haves

  • Strong functional knowledge of social media principles, practices, and the desire to apply that knowledge in a professional environment
  • Basic understanding of introductory marketing and communications principles (this could be obtained through coursework or class projects)
  • Ability to learn and adhere to university brand standards and divisional marketing practices
  • Advanced computer skills: Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop; etc.
  • Ability to create and edit videos
  • Ability to take and edit photos
  • Familiarity with web design
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Video and photography skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage Social media accounts
  • Review analytics to assess success and recommend improvements for future posts
  • Develop strategies to increase followership and engagement
  • Manage regular posting schedule
  • Develop miscellaneous content to increase followership
  • Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner
  • Make occasional posts to cross-promote events
  • Take photos and videos at events and upload to Social Media and Webpages
  • Routinely inspect and update Division website(s)
  • Assist with coordinating marketing events
  • Assisting in general marketing support duties
  • Provide marketing services assistance to Division Staff
  • Provide excellent customer service via phone, email, and in person interaction
  • Maintain participant confidentiality
  • Assist with other duties as assigned
