Gain meaningful experience in civil rights investigations, policy education, and community engagement. The Sioux City Human Rights Department is a neutral fact-finding agency that investigates complaints of discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations, education, and credit. Sponsoring programs that promote goodwill among Sioux City’s diverse racial, religious, and ethnic communities. Educating residents and businesses on civil rights and Fair Housing best-practices to prevent discrimination before it happens.

Requirements

• Must have a work experience/educational agreement between the City and the educational institution in which they are enrolled.
• Applicants for this class must be currently enrolled students in a degree program in good standing at an accredited technical school, college or university.
• Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive criticism.
• Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
• Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
• Ability to see details at a distance.
• Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intakes and assist with investigations into alleged discrimination that occurred within Sioux City.
• Help organize and promote educational workshops and community forums on topics such as disability rights, immigration, and Fair Housing.
• General clerical work and office support.
