About The Position

Finger Lakes ReUse, Inc. is a nonprofit community organization committed to reducing waste, relieving poverty, and teaching green job skills through reuse activities. This position will perform general operational tasks at our ReUse Center – where we retail gently used, affordable, quality furniture, household items, clothing, building materials, computers, and electronics. Staff are exposed to a wide range of donated materials and gain hands-on experience in a community-based ReUse Center. Over time, they can develop deeper skills and knowledge and specialize in an area that interests them, such as building materials, clothing or rare books. The work includes interacting with customers and contributing to the day-to day operations of a mission-driven organization. We keep millions of items in local use and out of the waste stream each year! Finger Lakes ReUse is a charitable non-profit organization with a triple-bottom mission to enhance community, economy and environment through reuse. We work to engage diverse representation from the community in reuse activities and to serve as a model organization for other communities, contributing to local poverty relief, waste reduction and providing meaningful work opportunities at all skill levels. Finger Lakes ReUse operates two locations open daily to the public (the Cayuga ReUse Center – 2309 N Triphammer Rd and the Ithaca ReUse Center – 214 Elmira Rd). All locations feature quality household items, furniture, refurbished electronics, building materials and more at affordable prices. Purchases help support community programs including the ReSET job training program, eCenter computer refurbishment and repair program and the ReUse Materials Access Program, providing materials to local people facing crisis. Finger Lakes ReUse values safety, resourcefulness, and respect above all else and the ReUse and Circular Economy Assistant is responsible for supporting these values and carrying out all aspects of retail operations.
