About The Position

The Student FWS (Federal Work-Study) position at the Teaching and Learning Center supports peers by providing tutoring in writing and selected subject areas such as algebra, anatomy and physiology, and statistics. This role also involves offering holistic academic coaching. Tutors assist students in improving their understanding of course content, enhancing their writing and communication abilities, and developing effective study strategies. The aim is to create a supportive environment that encourages students to become confident and independent learners.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be a current Loma Linda University Student.
• Strong performance in subject areas to be tutored.
• Able to read; write and speak with professional quality.
• Use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).
• Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position.
• Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
• Provide leadership.
• Be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws.
• Work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.
• Lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate.
• Accept direction.
• Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone.
• Think critically.
• Work independently.
• Perform basic math and statistical functions.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum one year of experience preferred.
• Completion of at least one quarter/semester of coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
