About The Position

The Student FWS (Federal Work-Study) role supports peers by providing tutoring in writing and selected subject areas (algebra, anatomy and physiology, and statistics) while also offering holistic academic coaching. Tutors work with students to improve their mastery of course content, strengthen writing and communication skills, and develop effective study strategies. In this role, tutors foster a supportive and welcoming environment that empowers students to become confident, independent learners. This student role supports the hiring department with various duties and performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be a current Loma Linda University Student.
  • Strong performance in subject areas to be tutored.
  • Able to read; write and speak with professional quality.
  • Able to use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).
  • Able to operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
  • Able to provide leadership.
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws.
  • Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.
  • Able to lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate.
  • Able to accept direction.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one year of experience preferred.
  • Completion of at least one quarter/semester of coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
