About The Position

The Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for working with current and prospective students in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences on student engagement initiatives, admission and recruitment processes, and other Faculty initiatives. This position plays an integral role in facilitating the connection between students, the Faculty, campus services, and other relevant groups. The Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating programs and services in support of a positive student experience in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Student Engagement Coordinator liaises with and supports student groups and leadership and is an initial point of contact for students with questions about initiatives that require Faculty consultation and support. This position works directly with the Associate Dean, Students, the Director of Student Services, and the Office of Student Services on portfolio-based initiatives and projects. The incumbent must exercise diplomacy, tact, discretion, good judgment, initiative, confidentiality and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively. Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of one to two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of Pharmaceutical Sciences student engagement initiatives.
  • Remains current with student engagement best practices to enhance the student experience.
  • Fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion for students by providing opportunities for connections with Faculty and peers.
  • Engages with prospective students and current students with the aim of fostering an environment of support and community amongst Pharmacy students.
  • Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders and campus partners to deliver services to current and prospective students.
  • Connects with campus health services to raise student awareness of supports available for student across a variety of topics.
  • Promotes the services and supports available to students within the Faculty.
  • Evaluates student engagement strategies and programming with the goal of creating and refining future programming.
  • Develops and distributes innovative content and resources to support the diversity of the student population.
  • In collaboration with the Faculty’s Communications Team, develops and updates the undergraduate student website and its social channels.
  • Develops and implements seminars and other undergraduate program events for newly admitted students and current students.
  • May select, train, and supervise student workers in the planning, organization and implementation of engagement programs and events.
  • Communicates with and supports student leaders on student initiatives.
  • Acts as a liaison between student leaders and the Faculty.
  • Is prepared to support students in crisis by providing appropriate referrals to academic advising and/or personal support services on campus.
  • Participates in cross-campus communities as required.
  • May liaise and collaborate with student engagement colleagues and units across campus.
  • Fully participates in and supports the Admission and Recruitment processes for Faculty programs.
  • Facilitates recruitment and outreach events for prospective students, college and high school counsellors, parents, and other interested community members.
  • Represents the Faculty at career fairs and other recruitment events.
  • Provides expert advice to prospective students on university policies and procedures related to undergraduate admission.
  • Plans, implements, and participates in the admissions and recruitment processes for the Faculty’s undergraduate programs.
  • Respond to and advise students with admission inquiries.
  • Oversees the post-admission process for PharmD students; this includes, but is not limited to, assessing requirements and records and determining fulfillment of requirements.
  • Liaises with students after they are admitted to Faculty programs to assist with or refer program inquiries accordingly.
  • Produces and analyzes program reports, statistics, and other internal and external reports as needed.
  • Manages special projects assigned by the Associate Dean, Students.
  • Coordinates communications to student body for undergraduate programs as required.
  • Acts as a point of contact for students, faculty and community partners internal and external to UBC seeking information about the Office and/or its services.
  • Performs other duties as required in the day-to-day operations of Student Services.
