About The Position

The Student Employment Specialist performs a variety of technical, administrative, and confidential duties supporting the day-to-day operations of the Student Employment department. This position focuses primarily on student hiring and onboarding, supporting hiring managers throughout the employment process, providing training and development, assisting with Workday processes, supporting campus events and presentations, and performing a variety of general human resources administrative functions. This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits. Under the direct oversight of the Director of Student Employment, the Student Employment Specialist works in partnership with hiring managers, students, and campus departments to support the successful employment of approximately 2,500 student workers. This is a fast-paced role requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, customer service, communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Requirements

  • At least three years of customer support experience
  • Experience with Campus Solutions and Workday strongly preferred
  • Prior experience working in a role with heavy deadlines and multiple moving parts
  • Proven track record of providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to foster open communication and promote positive relationships
  • Ability to maintain work priorities in and environment with multiple concurrent tasks and projects while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative in day-to-day activities and look for was to implement process improvements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work in an organized manner and consistently follow-up on tasks

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in higher education preferred
  • Knowledge of federal hiring forms and immigration documents for work authorizations is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Record, maintain, monitor, and report student employment and hiring information accurately and confidentially.
  • Respond to and assist with Student Employment related inquiries and requests from students, employees, hiring managers, and visitors.
  • Provide administrative support for hiring managers throughout the student hiring and onboarding process.
  • Coordinate and support the hiring and onboarding of student employees, including reviewing required documentation, assisting with background screening processes, and facilitating important information.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students and hiring managers regarding Workday functionality and student employment processes.
  • Ensure required new-hire documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Collect, maintain, and update employment verification records, including E-Verify and re-verification requirements, as applicable.
  • Conduct training sessions, presentations, and informational sessions for students, hiring managers, and campus partners on student employment processes, resources, expectations, and related topics.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of student employee and hiring manager training and development programs.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in student employment events, workshops, presentations, and engagement initiatives across campus.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and managing campus events and engagement initiatives for student employees, including annual Student Employee Appreciation Week.
  • Assist with addressing and resolving student employee questions, concerns, and employment-related issues, escalating matters to the Director of Student Employment when appropriate.
  • Develop and distribute weekly, monthly, and term-based communications to targeted student employees and supervisor populations, ensuring timely and effective communication among all parties.
  • Assist with department projects, process improvements, and special initiatives related to student employment and employee engagement.
  • Maintain departmental office supplies and assist with general administrative operations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
