About The Position

Act as mentors to those involved in the following THEA courses: Stagecraft, Production Practicum, Theatre Practicum. Duties include acting in various capacities such as Scenic Designer, Scene Painter, Paint Charge, Scenic Artist, Assistant Scenic Designer, Carpenter, Set Builder, Welder, Draughtsperson, and Digital Artist. Responsibilities also involve helping build, paint, and dress sets for Mainstage productions, organizing the props loft and storage closet, maintaining the paint room and metals storage, and maintaining the lighting closet and lighting storage. The role also requires assisting with lighting calls, understanding and using the fly system, assisting in Strikes for every Mainstage, and assisting with the load-in and load-out of traveling Mainstages. Additionally, the employee must be able to read build plans and help close the shop. If needed, attendance at transitions rehearsals to help actors understand a complicated set is expected.

Requirements

  • UCM enrolled student.
  • No technical prior experience required.
  • Understanding of the safety aspect of the carpentry and lighting shop is most important.
  • Research fly rail terms, etiquette, and tool names before applying.
