About The Position

The supervisor is accountable for assigning workflow and providing operational leadership for the department. This position supports individualized student service delivery alongside ongoing administrative functions to promote positive personal and academic student experiences. This role provides oversight of service delivery by monitoring workflow, identifying concerns, and supporting consistent student access to services. The supervisor administers key annual processes and supports student registration and mandatory government requirements. This role also reviews and implements recommendations for programs, policies, and student service initiatives based on research and analysis to mitigate risk and improve service quality.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with student services within a post-secondary environment, preferably including experience with registration processes and student aid
  • Experience providing team leadership and development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, champion innovation, and manage change in a complex environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to balance competing demands and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Sound decision-making, judgement, discretion, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills with a high commitment to customer service
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications; experience with student information systems is preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) or Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) certification is an asset
  • Familiarity with university programs, policies, procedures, and student services is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Supervises department staff by coaching and mentoring employees, supporting professional development, assigning workflow, and supporting all stages of the employee lifecycle
  • Evaluates systems and policies as well as provides advice and recommendations regarding new or enhanced systems
  • Leads key annual processes and projects supporting registration delivery, compliance reporting, and financial appeal review related committees
  • Advances continuous improvement efforts through research-driven recommendations for new programs, policies, and student service initiatives to strengthen efficiency and quality of service delivery
  • Provides oversight of service delivery for government student aid
  • Facilitates regular communication with stakeholders across campus to identify opportunities to streamline student services, address gaps, and strengthen collaborative relationships
  • Gathers and interprets operational statistics for the department to inform process, service, and policy improvements
  • Develops and maintains knowledge and training resources and supports the development of content for student communications
  • Oversees compliance with relevant legislation and institutional policies through assessments
  • Monitors trends and leading practices in student services and guides the implementation of enhancements and innovations
  • Monitors and maintains student and department related data across systems, student portals, and the university website
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment, and models these behaviours across the institution
  • Builds and leads diverse teams, champions inclusive leadership, and values different perspectives
