About The Position

The Student Catering Prep Cook is an on-site position assisting the Catering Chef Team with all aspects of catering operations on the St. Paul campus. The primary duties include preparing raw ingredients, assembling food pans and trays, assisting chefs with cooking, washing dishes, cleaning, and organizing the kitchen. Shift complexity varies according to the day’s orders. Catering events range from small takeout orders to large galas and banquets with formal plated meal service.

The position is estimated at five days per week, two to three hours per day, for a total of 10–15 hours per week. Morning shifts are preferred, such as 8–11 a.m. or 9 a.m.–noon, but scheduling can be flexible based on the student’s schedule. The pay rate is $16.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients, including chopping or mixing with industrial machinery.
• Assemble prepared food and store it in appropriate containers and at appropriate temperatures for the Catering Team.
• Assist with cooking, including baking, frying, and grilling with industrial machinery.
• Gather used supplies and clean the kitchen, returning it to its pre-cook condition.
• Return supplies to their designated storage locations and wash dirty dishes.
• Receive and store orders.
• Periodically clean supplies and organize storage locations.
• Perform other tasks assigned by a Supervisor.
