About The Position

The Cook/Prep Cook prepares foods according to recipes and production tallies, following food safety and sanitation regulations. Working closely with the Executive Chef as part of a team, the role helps provide nutritionally adequate meals to residents and patients. This is an on-site position with a day schedule; every other weekend and holiday is required, and remote work is not available.

Requirements

At least 1 year of cooking experience.
Ability to read and speak English.
Basic math skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities

Know and follow Dining Services operations policies and procedures.
Prepare menu items for resident meals using production sheets and recipes to maintain nutritional adequacy.
Plate food in appropriate portions with appealing presentation.
Follow HACCP sanitation and food safety guidelines.
Use cooking equipment properly, including stoves, steamers, grills, blenders, buffalo choppers, floor mixers, soup kettles, and braziers.
Apply basic cooking terms and techniques such as steaming, baking, frying, broiling, and sautéing.
Use basic cooking measurements, including cups, quarts, ounces, teaspoons, and tablespoons.
Calibrate and use food thermometers correctly.
Take food temperatures and record them on the appropriate HACCP forms.
Answer the phone and fulfill resident requests in a timely manner.
Understand therapeutic diets, including restrictions and consistency alterations.
Wash pots and pans using the three-sink method as needed.
Clean kitchen equipment and storage areas and perform general kitchen cleaning.
Use cleaning chemicals properly and understand Material Data Safety Sheets.
