About The Position

The Department of Athletics invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month, contractual position limited with benefits. The position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics. The Athletic Academic Advisor is responsible for providing academic advising and support for student-athletes to ensure that they make satisfactory/appropriate academic progress towards graduation and meet all university, conference, and NCAA eligibility requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in academic advising, student services, student affairs, or higher education teaching.
  • Knowledge of the higher education landscape, degree planning and academic policies.
  • Knowledge of curriculum structures, course sequencing, and graduation requirements.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and student privacy regulations.
  • Knowledge of campus resources, support services, and referral processes.
  • Skill in oral and written interpersonal communication.
  • Skill in organization and time-management to manage multiple student caseloads and competing priorities.
  • Skill in using student information systems, databases, and Microsoft Office or similar software.
  • Skill in data tracking and recordkeeping with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret, explain and apply academic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to employ active listening, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to analyze student records, identify barriers to success, and develop action plans.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including occasional nights/weekends, and travel.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural questions and prioritize workload.
  • Working knowledge of Intercollegiate Athletics and NCAA rules and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural background.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with student-athletes to advise them on academically related issues, objective-based study hall requirements and or any other issues.
  • Advises a diverse population of student-athletes in regard to their academic progress towards degree. This includes pre-advisement for course registrations as it relates to their major requirements. Facilitates student-athletes academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate academic plans.
  • Maintains student-athletes academic files that include a record of the advising activity that takes place during each visit.
  • Monitors student-athletes regarding NCAA rules for satisfactory progress towards degree completion requirements.
  • Supports academic and department programs/functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
