About The Position

This is a student position responsible for performing field data and sample collection, sample preparation, and/or lab analyses. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This posting is for research assistants who will be working under specific professors within the College of Forestry and Agriculture. Student must have spoken with and coordinated a position with a professor within the College of Forestry and Agriculture.

Requirements

• The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
• No direct experience is required.
• Knowledge of data collection principles and practices.
• Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
• A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters.
• To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
• Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.

Responsibilities

• May assist in the capture and collection of field data.
• May cooperate in the handling and processing of data, as necessary.
• May assist in the development and completion of surveys, reports, analysis, etc.
• May perform work in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, wind, rain, and humidity.
• May assist with special projects as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
