About The Position

Hebrew Union College (HUC) is seeking a Virtual Pathway Student Ambassador to join its Office of Recruitment and Admissions (ORA) staff. This role involves creating and implementing strategies to attract applicants, enhance student relations, train students as recruiters, increase publicity, and train alumni on recruitment efforts. The position aims to develop the ambassador's engagement, communication, counseling, and contact management skills. HUC is hiring one Student Ambassador in Los Angeles, CA, to collaborate with existing ambassadors in New York and Los Angeles. The ideal candidate must be a current HUC student.

Requirements

• 2 years minimum of graduate and/or seminary schooling and training.
• Preference for HUC-trained individuals.
• 1+ years in community engagement programming.
• 2 years of active membership in the HUC community; must be a current student.
• Knowledge and experience of the greater Jewish community, locally and beyond.
• Excellent evaluation and record-keeping skills with fine attention to detail.
• Professional and courteous communicator, with administration and applicants alike.
• Kind, honest, and friendly demeanor.
• Ability to be part of a dynamic, remote, professional team.
• Must be self-motivated, organized, and able to manage many moving pieces and overlapping timelines simultaneously.
• Approximately 5 hours/week commitment.
• Must be an HUC student.

Responsibilities

• Create virtual experiences for prospective students.
• Lead communication with visiting prospects and liaise between visitors and campus staff (school directors, faculty, students, ORA administrative staff).
• Serve as the first point of contact for guests, planning and engaging them prior to their visit via email and phone/text.
• Engage and train current students to act as campus hosts for classes, tefillah, meals, and housing.
• Coordinate and create schedules for prospective students, ensuring interactions with ORA staff, program directors, and students.
• Host conversations for prospects and applicants for programs on the ambassador's campus (e.g., Los Angeles, rabbinical, SOE, ZSJNM programs).
• Support the ORA team with Open House planning on campuses.
• Support the ORA team for on-campus interviews, including hosting meals with applicants and students.
• Manage the reimbursement of students and visitors for approved expenses (up to $250 for travel).
• Potentially travel locally and nationally for recruitment events, conferences, and campus visits, with additional pay.
• Report on campus visits, including attendee details, activities, meetings, and follow-up recommendations.
• Support and contribute to information sessions and webinars with ORA Admissions and the Office Administrator.
• Mail gifts, swag, and care packages on behalf of the ORA office as requested.
• Conduct research and data collection for statistical analysis, recruitment strategies, and admissions processing as requested.
• Contact current prospective students to understand their goals and explain how HUC-JIR can help them.
• Explain the admissions process, answer questions, and guide prospective applicants through the admissions process.
• Reach out to future prospective students to offer a personal connection with a current student and invite them to campus.
• Arrange meals, student meetings, and class visits for applicants during admissions interviews.
• Follow up with individuals who inquired about the program at the end of the admissions season to gauge continued interest.
• Advise on YII program and campus selection for newly admitted students.
• Invite all admitted students to campus for a visit.
• Advise admitted students about YII program and campus selection.
