Student Advising Mentor (SAM)

Berklee College of Music•Boston, MA
•Onsite

About The Position

Student Advising Mentors (SAMs) serve as peer mentors for undergraduate students at all stages of their Berklee experience. They provide holistic guidance with an academic focus and share accurate, timely information on topics such as declaring a major, registering for classes through my.berklee and self service, time management, and class selection. SAMs are not tutors or academic advisors; they help students find and use those resources. They also act as ambassadors for Student Success Advising by taking prominent roles at Center events, contributing to its social media account, and designing events of their own. The position averages 7–10 hours per week, includes occasional night and weekend shifts, and requires summer and spring training. It is for a full academic year; SAMs in good standing may work limited hours during the summer. Required commitments include introductory training on August 20 and 21 from 12–5 p.m., winter training on January 15 from 12–5 p.m., weekly small team meetings on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., and weekly large team meetings on Thursdays at 1 p.m. The hourly rate is $17.51.
