About The Position

This full-time position works in the Facilities Department at Community College of Aurora. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Perform preventative maintenance on building facilities through daily inspections of structural components. Responsibilities include minor repairs and upkeep of walls, doors, and windows as needed. Tasks may involve light carpentry, drywall patching, painting, and the installation of wall-mounted fixtures. Ensure facilities remain in good condition by addressing maintenance needs. Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure optimal space comfort through effective HVAC and Building Automation System (BAS) management. Monitor, adjust, and calibrate climate control systems to maintain consistent temperature, humidity, and air quality. Identify and resolve issues affecting occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and system performance while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. Supervise and lead a team in structural maintenance, repair, and installation; provide training, guidance, and technical expertise; assign tasks, oversee workflow, and ensure safety and quality standards; troubleshoot issues and determine efficient solutions; coordinate work efforts, monitor performance, and support team development for effective operations. Identify and address minor plumbing issues such as leaks, clogged drains, and faulty fixtures to maintain building functionality. Perform routine inspections, tighten connections, replace washers, and clear blockages as needed. Assist with basic repairs to sinks, toilets, and water supply lines. Assist other crafts and staff as needed by helping with snow removal, setups, for events, provide assistance when required, completing additional tasks as assigned by supervisor. This position like others in the physical plant, requires the individual to do work in areas other than that of the specific trade, therefore, requires a good general knowledge of building maintenance.

Requirements

  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application.
  • Four (4) years of experience in the structural trades to include carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing and HVAC.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver's license to independently drive company vehicles and equipment around the campus, pick up parts, etc.
  • Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire.
  • Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position.
  • Position is required to be on-call to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption.
  • Must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions.
  • Must be able to interpret written directives, policies, and memos.
  • Must be able to perform the required level of physical exertion and essential functions, which includes exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects, and constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception.

  • Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
