About The Position

Omega Technical Services is seeking a Structural/Mechanical Analysis Engineer to support ongoing operations. The position is contingent upon contract award and/or project funding; employment offers and start dates depend on successful award, funding authorization, and client approval. The role provides structural and mechanical analysis for elevated-temperature nuclear component design evaluations in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5. It supports code-compliance evaluations of structural integrity, including load-controlled stress evaluations, stress classification and linearization, and finite element model development. The engineer contributes to code-compliant, independently reviewable calculation packages that support the design and safety basis of next-generation nuclear components. The position is remote-eligible, with periodic coordination calls with technical leads and no mandatory on-site presence stated for the role. The posting also says the candidate must be willing and able to work onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) as required. Engagement duration and hours will be determined based on candidate availability and final scope assignment. A 40-hour work week is scheduled, with work schedules including 5/8s, 4/10s, and 9/80s. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and is used at the manager’s discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program, with at least 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science in mechanical engineering or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program, with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
  • Must complete pre-employment screening, including a drug and breath alcohol test and a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5, or demonstrated transferable experience in Section III, Division 1 or Section VIII with elevated-temperature exposure.
  • Finite element analysis experience using ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent, including 3D model development, mesh convergence, and boundary-condition documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with creep-fatigue damage evaluation, including time-dependent creep and fatigue interaction, usage factors, and hold-time effects, per Subsection HBB / Mandatory Appendix HBB-I.
  • Experience with strain limits, ratcheting, and incremental collapse assessment.
  • Experience with elevated-temperature buckling, including thermal and creep buckling.
  • Ability to produce code-compliant, independently reviewable calculation packages.
  • Must be willing and able to work onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with weld strength reduction factors, dissimilar metal weld assessment, or bolted-joint fatigue and relaxation analysis under Division 5.
  • Prior DOE national laboratory or nuclear component supplier experience.
  • Familiarity with Section II, Part D material allowables.
  • Active DOE or DoD clearance within the past two years.
  • Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
  • Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5 nuclear component design requirements.
  • Ability to apply general code rules to specific analysis problems and produce technically sound, defensible results.
  • Ability to combine analytical results to form conclusions supporting code-compliance determinations.
  • Ability to understand technical information presented through discussions with technical leads and stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate analysis results and technical findings clearly in writing and verbally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform code-compliance analysis supporting the structural integrity of elevated-temperature nuclear components.
  • Conduct load-controlled stress evaluations, stress classification, and stress linearization.
  • Develop finite element models for nuclear component design evaluations.
  • Support preparation of code-compliant, independently reviewable calculation packages.
  • Contribute technical analysis supporting the design and safety basis of next-generation nuclear components.
