About The Position

Epirus is a high-growth technology company focused on national security challenges. Its flagship product, Leonidas, is a software-defined system that uses intelligent power management to help power-hungry systems do more with less. Epirus is seeking an experienced structural analysis engineer to help develop the next generation of high-power microwave (HPM) products. The role involves designing and analyzing electronic and mechanical assemblies intended to withstand harsh environments, and following designs and analyses through their complete lifecycle, from concept through testing and verification. The engineer will also mentor colleagues and serve as a mechanical design and analysis lead on product teams. For California, the stated starting pay range is $138,000–$193,000 USD. Compensation is influenced by factors including skills, experience, and office location. The position is subject to ITAR eligibility requirements: candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, or a similar engineering field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in structural/stress design and analysis of metallic structures.
  • Expert-level proficiency in finite element analysis and structural hand calculations.
  • Experience with structural analysis and pre/post-processing software such as Nastran, FEMAP, Ansys, Patran, or equivalent.
  • Experience analyzing systems under static loading, shock, and vibration, including random vibration.
  • Experience with CAD and practical application of GD&T.
  • Experience with structural testing and qualification of mechanical systems.
  • Must meet the stated ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience performing stress analysis of electronic systems such as circuit card assemblies.
  • Experience designing or analyzing actuated mechanical systems, including azimuth and elevation pointing mechanisms.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work across all levels of an organization.
  • Organized, with comfort working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and associated harsh-environment considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze structures for mounting RF phased arrays and other electronic packages.
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) on complex mechanical structures and electronic assemblies for static, modal, and structural-dynamics loads, including vibration and shock.
  • Build finite element models and perform hand calculations to verify structural integrity across Epirus product lines.
  • Mentor colleagues and serve as the mechanical design and analysis lead on product design teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop requirements, design, and build electromechanical systems that can withstand harsh operating and transport environments.
  • Follow designs and analyses through the complete lifecycle, from conceptualization through test and verification.
