About The Position

Omega Technical Services is seeking a Structural/Mechanical Analysis Engineer to support ongoing operations in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The position is contingent upon contract award and/or project funding; candidates may be screened and submitted beforehand, while offers and start dates depend on award, funding authorization, and client approval. The role is remote-eligible, with periodic coordination calls with technical leads and no mandatory on-site presence stated, although the candidate must be willing and able to work onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex as required. Engagement duration and hours will depend on candidate availability and final scope assignment. The engineer provides structural and mechanical analysis for elevated-temperature nuclear component design evaluations under ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5. Work supports code compliance and structural integrity, including load-controlled stress evaluations, stress classification and linearization, finite element model development, and independently reviewable calculation packages. The role contributes to the technical rigor supporting the design and safety basis of next-generation nuclear components. A 40-hour work week is scheduled, with client schedules including 5/8s, 4/10s, and 9/80s. The work week excludes client holidays, and each workday includes a 30-minute lunch. Overtime may be expected at times to meet deliverables and is used at the manager’s discretion.

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program and at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Obtain satisfactory results on pre-employment screening, including a drug and breath alcohol test and a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
  • Have working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5, or demonstrated transferable experience in Section III Division 1 or Section VIII with elevated-temperature exposure.
  • Have FEA experience using ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent, including 3D model development, mesh convergence, and boundary condition documentation.
  • Have hands-on experience with creep-fatigue damage evaluation, including time-dependent creep and fatigue interaction, usage factors, and hold-time effects, per Subsection HBB / Mandatory Appendix HBB-I.
  • Have experience with strain limits, ratcheting, and incremental collapse assessment.
  • Have experience with elevated-temperature buckling, including thermal and creep buckling.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce code-compliant, independently reviewable calculation packages.
  • Be willing and able to work onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Have previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
  • Have working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5 nuclear component design requirements.
  • Have FEA experience, including 3D model development, mesh convergence, and boundary condition documentation.
  • Be able to apply general code rules to specific analysis problems and produce technically sound, defensible results.
  • Be able to combine analytical results to form conclusions supporting code-compliance determinations.
  • Be able to listen to and understand technical information and ideas presented through discussions with technical leads and stakeholders.
  • Be able to communicate analysis results and technical findings clearly, in writing and verbally.
  • Have experience with weld strength reduction factors, dissimilar metal weld assessment, or bolted joint fatigue/relaxation analysis under Division 5.
  • Have prior DOE national laboratory or nuclear component supplier experience.
  • Be familiar with Section II, Part D material allowables.

Responsibilities
