About The Position

Unite Solutions is seeking a Structural Fitter to join its team in New Orleans, Louisiana. The role involves assembling and aligning structural components for shipbuilding projects. The fitter interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to lay out, position, and secure metal plates, frames, bulkheads, and other components. Working alongside welders, riggers, and other fitters, the role helps transform raw material into completed ship structures and supports projects through multiple construction stages.

Requirements

• Prior experience as a Structural Fitter or in a related metal fabrication trade.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Proficiency with fitting tools, measuring instruments, and layout techniques.
• Familiarity with cutting, grinding, and tack-welding processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work within tight tolerances.
• Capacity to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks in a shipyard environment.
• Team-oriented attitude and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to determine the layout and fit of structural components.
• Measure, mark, and position steel plates, beams, bulkheads, and frames for assembly.
• Fit and align parts using clamps, jacks, wedges, and other rigging tools before tacking or welding.
• Verify dimensions, angles, and clearances to ensure assemblies meet specifications and tolerances.
• Use grinders, cutting torches, and hand and power tools to prepare and shape material.
• Collaborate with welders and support the work of a Structural Fitter crew across multiple construction stages.
• Inspect completed fit-ups for accuracy and report discrepancies to supervisors.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
