Hatch is seeking a dynamic Structural Engineering Trainee to join their Engineering Delivery, Structural group, providing engineering services to large and small projects. The role is responsible for the analysis and design of structures for hydropower, dam, and heavy industrial settings. Reporting to the Structural Discipline Lead Engineer, you will support projects globally while working from the Niagara Falls office. We’re entrepreneurs with a technical soul. Requirements

  • Must be working towards graduating in 2026, or recently graduated, with a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering.
  • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community.
  • Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects.
  • Ability to learn quickly and willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and initiative taker.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred academic courses include Structural Analysis, Structural Mechanics, Reinforced Concrete Design, Structural Steel Design, Foundation Design.
  • Advanced courses including Hydropower and Dam Structures, Structural Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis are an asset.
  • Previous relevant co-op and summer work terms or internships in structural engineering is an asset.
  • Academic or work experience with structural software such as SAP2000 and/or STAADPro, FEA (Ansys, LS-Dyna, Abaqus), CAD software, and MathCAD is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently to perform calculations for structural analysis and design of industrial building and equipment support structures and foundations.
  • Work collaboratively to share the results of your work with senior members of the discipline and/or other Hatch groups.
  • Prepare calculation reports and engineering documents to be used by internal and external stakeholders.
  • Become knowledgeable of structural analytical software and tools, building codes and material design codes, discipline workflows and execution, and building and equipment structure and foundation systems.
  • Participate in office and site safety training and inductions as needed to support office and site activities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work in other Hatch offices or project work sites (including remote sites) as needs and opportunities arise.
