About The Position

At Coffman Engineers, we serve as both prime consultant and sub consultant on projects large and small, including commercial, retail, institutional, government, industrial, and project/construction management. We are seeking an entry-level Structural Engineer with an interest in pursuing the design of commercial, institutional, and industrial structures for our San Diego office. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a desire to work and grow with a multidiscipline engineering team, and be willing to have fun.

Requirements

Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities).
Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities (or demonstrate ability to develop such abilities).
Able to maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
Excellent leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
Able to work independently as well as on teams.
Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering required
Registration as an E.I.T required
Experience with computer analysis software systems

Nice To Haves

Internship in the structural design of buildings or similar structures preferred

Responsibilities

Perform structural analysis and design of structural members such as beams, columns, walls, joists, and foundations.
Develop structural models that mathematically define and idealize the actual structure being designed.
Use approved codes and standards to define structural demands on buildings due to wind and seismic loadings.
Analyze and design connections of the various structural elements in a building structure.
Perform analysis needed to evaluate seismic risk in existing buildings using approved structural codes and standards.
Assist in managing BIM and production efforts.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
