About The Position

Volkert is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer in Training (E.I.) to support its Southeast Region in Tampa or Orlando, Florida. The role assists a team of engineers on structural design and engineering studies, including design, plan production, and preparation of project deliverables. The engineer will perform assignments applying basic structural engineering principles and contribute to projects involving highway bridge and retaining wall design and repair, bridge load ratings, working-drawing reviews, and cost estimating. The role also supports structural analysis, calculations, detailing, and drawing preparation, primarily for steel and concrete structures, while collaborating with the Structures Team.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.
Emphasis in structural knowledge.
1–5 years of structural engineering experience.
EIT (E.I.) certification.
Experience with MicroStation.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).

Nice To Haves

Previous FDOT experience is desired but not required.
Structural engineering experience with FDOT is preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic structural engineering principles.
Assist with projects involving highway bridge and retaining wall design and repair, bridge load ratings, reviews of working drawings, and cost estimating.
Assist in preparing project quantities and cost estimates.
Assist in analyzing structures using structural engineering software programs.
Assist with and prepare structural calculations and details of structural elements, predominantly for steel and concrete.
Prepare structural drawings using Open Bridge, MicroStation, and AutoCAD.
Work collaboratively as part of the Structures Team.
