About The Position

The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Street Maintenance and Operations Superintendent. This is a full-time regular exempt position with benefits, scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a possibility of transitioning to a 4-day, 10-hour schedule. The Public Works Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's capital projects, streets, and traffic operations, including signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems, and roadway lighting. This involves maintaining over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alleys, requiring tasks such as asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, debris removal, and landscaping maintenance. The division also oversees the acquisition of professional services, design, construction, and construction management for various city improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Construction Management, Public Administration or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in Streets construction, maintenance, operations
  • At least 2+ years of lead or supervisory experience
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
  • Proven leadership experience supervising multi-disciplinary crews and divisions
  • Knowledge of asphalt and concrete maintenance
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and contracts
  • Clear communication skills with field crews and city leadership
  • Comfortable presenting to stakeholders and engaging with the public

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) guidelines
  • Understanding of Federal OSHA and state and county regulations regarding safe work practices
  • Experience using a computerized asset/maintenance management work order system

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the City's capital projects, streets, and traffic operations.
  • Manage the planning, design, installation, maintenance, and operation of all signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems, and roadway lighting.
  • Supervise maintenance of over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alleys, including asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs and gutters, sidewalk repair, debris removal, and maintenance of landscaping in City right-of-ways.
  • Oversee the acquisition of professional services, design, construction, and construction management for transportation, utilities, community services, and other general government improvements.
  • Communicate clearly with both field crews and city leadership.
  • Present to stakeholders and engage with the public when needed.
  • Supervise multi-disciplinary crews and divisions.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and contracts.
