About The Position

Performs complex technical and administrative work planning and overseeing the work of the Street Division and Stormwater Operations Division and related operations for the City of Cañon City. Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible street maintenance and repair experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Valid unrestricted Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain Certification in FEMAS’s National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700A, Certification in FEMAS’s Incident Command System (ICS) ICS-100 and ICS-200 within 12 months of employment.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Associates Degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • Certification in FEMS’s National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700A, Certification in FEMS’s Incident Command System (ICS) ICS-100 and ICS-200.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and inspects the maintenance and repair of streets, storm water facilities, and public rights-of-way.
  • Works with other internal departments and external agencies on repairs, construction projects, and maintenance to ensure a coordinated delivery of services for the community.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws regarding streets, highways, and storm drainage maintenance.
  • Is a contact person for the City for FEMA Incident Management to serve in times of crisis or disasters.
  • Provides supervision duties to the assigned Street Division and Stormwater Operation Division employees.
  • Prepares and monitors budget for the Street Division.
  • Prepares bid documents for needed equipment and materials.
  • Purchases supplies and services in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains database of street condition, work performed, equipment used, and associated costs.
  • Prepares reports, and implements policies as directed by City Administrator, City Council, or Public Works Director.
  • Advises the City Administrator, Public Works Director, citizen groups, individuals, contractors and others on division issues; assembles necessary resources to solve a broad range of programmatic and service delivery problems in the delivery of public works services.
  • Provides general supervisory responsibilities to the Street Maintenance and Stormwater Operations assigned staff.
  • Provides excellent customer service to external and internal customers including but not limited to effectively listening and communicating, providing accurate information, offering solutions, assisting in resolution, and ensuring timely follow up as needed.
  • Assists with preparing the Stormwater Fund budget, and Capital Program budgets.
  • Assists with developing, maintaining, and implementing long-range capital planning efforts.
  • Attends City Council and/or other public meetings on an as-needed basis.
  • Assists the City in disseminating pertinent public information.
