About The Position

This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of city streets. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Senior Streets Operator.” Operates a variety of equipment, including front-end loader, backhoe, road graders, tractor-trailer, and other equipment. Operates a snowplow and other snow removal equipment. Performs a variety of street construction, maintenance and repair duties, repairs asphalt and patches potholes. Maintains and repairs storm drains and related infrastructure. Mows rights-of-way. Patches potholes and cracks in roadways. Maintains de-watering wells. Locates underground utilities. Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections. Transports materials and equipment to and from work sites. Flags traffic and installs traffic control devices at work sites. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and drainage system maintenance.
Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Completion of specialized training in the field of work.
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain within six (6) months of employment a valid Class B commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Wyoming.
