Equipment Operator I-Streets
About The Position
The City of Staunton’s Public Works Department is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join its team in the Streets Division. The successful candidate performs routine semi-skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment related to street maintenance and construction. They will also perform manual labor related to assigned work and regularly scheduled standby duties including sewer, water, streets, and storm-related problems. The role involves responding to unscheduled emergency work such as storms, ice, and snow emergencies, and performing seasonal operations like leaf collection, heavy trash pickup, and snow removal.
Requirements
- Completion of the eighth grade and some experience in the operation of motorized equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- CDL Class B license with tanker endorsement.
- Must work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays if inclement weather or other adverse conditions require the clearing or work on streets etc.
- Will be on call on a rotational basis for emergency work.
- Subject to pre-employment physical/drug screening and random drug testing.
