About The Position

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Streets Maintenance Supervisor in our Public Services Department. This role involves supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff, coordinating and reviewing work, and performing streets maintenance tasks. The position also includes general office/clerical work, OSHA compliance oversight, bid specification development, and after-hours/on-call support. The supervisor may act as lead in the absence of the Public Service Superintendent and must adhere to policies, codes, laws, and regulations, utilizing various tools, machinery, vehicles, and power equipment. Additional duties include administrative tasks, participating in training and continuing education, assisting other staff, staying current on departmental procedures, maintaining equipment, ensuring a safe work area, identifying improvements, demonstrating professionalism and customer service, supporting a culture of results and collaboration, representing the department at events, adhering to the Employee Handbook, and maintaining regular attendance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with course work in engineering technology, construction industry, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of sidewalks, roadways, equipment operations, or other relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Requires road flagger training.
  • OSHA Level 2/Hazardous Materials Operations Training.
  • South Carolina Class A/B Operator Training.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, recommending disciplinary actions and completing employee performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules.
  • Monitors status of work in progress.
  • Inspects completed work assignments.
  • Answers questions and gives direction as needed.
  • Performs general office/clerical work preparing reports and correspondence, compiling data, assisting with budget preparation.
  • Performs streets maintenance such as mowing, trimming, tree removal, chemical applications, litter control, weed control, patching asphalt, fixing sidewalks and driveway entrances, repairing storm water issues, etc.
  • Receives/reviews/enters tasks and work orders, vehicle reports, general office correspondence; maintains inventory control.
  • Oversees OSHA compliance standards.
  • Develops specifications and receives quotes for bids/purchases.
  • Provides support for after-hours events and on call support.
  • May act as lead supervisor in absence of Public Service Superintendent.
  • Adheres to policy, codes, laws, regulations.
  • Utilizes various tools, machinery, vehicles, power equipment.
  • Performs general administrative tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, filing records, and answering phones.
  • Participates in required training and continuing education to obtain and maintain certifications and stay current on changes in codes and ordinances.
  • Assists other officers and staff when workload, emergencies, or special assignments require.
  • Stays current on departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Completes work accurately, safely, and efficiently; maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Identifies and reports suggested improvements or areas of concern to the Supervisor.
  • Ensures professionalism and excellent customer service in all interactions while representing the City of Greer.
  • Demonstrates strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability with coworkers, customers, and the community.
  • Supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration within the department and across the organization.
  • Represents the department at community events or meetings when requested by the Supervisor.
  • Adheres to the Employee Handbook and all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Maintains regular, reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
