About The Position

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability, and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change. The Public Partnerships Division specifically focuses on building partnerships with national governments and development actors, including International Financial Institutions (IFIs), to strategically position WFP and mobilize resources for achieving zero hunger and related development priorities. This role is part of a broader initiative to diversify partnerships, particularly around the 'Changing Lives' agenda, and requires reinforcing the team to support expanding opportunities, articulate WFP's value propositions, and assist country offices with proposals and contracts. The Strategic Partnerships Consultant will report to the Deputy Director of MPC and engage with the World Bank, IMF, and IDB on geographic and thematic portfolio issues.

Requirements

  • Advanced academic degree in political science, law, economics, international affairs, public health, social sciences, development studies, or any other field related to international development or humanitarian assistance.
  • At least 6 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in public sector management, development projects, emergency assistance and/or institutional strengthening.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and research skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, teamwork spirit, and ability to work in multicultural settings.
  • Proficiency/level C of English.

  • Strong understanding of WFP’s and/or Financial Institutions’ operations and processes.
  • Diligence, organization, and comfort working with multiple senior internal and external actors and to tight deadlines.
  • Working directly in or with WFP field operations is highly preferred.
  • Other UN language(s) desired.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on geographic and/or thematic portfolio issues assigned based on areas of specific expertise.
  • Coordinate special projects, briefs, and other deliverables on behalf of the team.
  • Advise the Deputy Director on a range of issues related to the partnership with the World Bank, IMF, and IDB and relevant counterparts as appropriate.
  • Coordinate staff meetings, monitor task progression, and proactively follow up to optimize business processes.
  • Analyze trends, opportunities, metrics, and modalities of partnering with Washington-based IFIs at the Regional/Global level practices to provide advice, guidance, and support to Country Offices.
  • Support the standardization of communication to internal stakeholders on progress and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for capacity building for country offices.
  • Perform any other business as required.
