About The Position

The Strategic Initiatives Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, and coordination of strategic initiatives within the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS), including professional development programming (continuing education), the SENS Summer Kids Camp (SENS Eco Camps), and leading some recruitment and student engagement initiatives including enhanced coordination of student-partner projects (e.g., ENVS 992) and partnership development activities aligned with SENS strategic priorities. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position works in a collaborative, often fast-paced environment requiring strong organizational and communication skills. The Coordinator works with faculty, staff, students (current and prospective), community partners and working professionals, including youth and volunteers, and is responsible for managing multiple priorities, coordinating across diverse stakeholders, and ensuring the effective delivery of programming and initiatives. This position is primarily on-site at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and requires a consistent physical presence to support strategic initiatives. Due to the hands-on and interactive nature of this role, remote work is not suitable. Relocation assistance is not provided. Some flexibility may be required to accommodate outreach, recruitment, and partnership activities, which may include occasional off-site and/or after-hours work.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., administration, communications, education, environmental studies/science, or a related discipline)
  • Experience coordinating programs, projects, or initiatives, preferably within a post-secondary or professional learning environment
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences (e.g., prospective students, partners)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities, manage competing priorities, and track basic program information (e.g., schedules, budgets)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • Good judgment and professionalism when handling sensitive or confidential situations
  • Initiative and creativity in supporting engaging programs or activities
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Experience supporting student recruitment, outreach, or engagement initiatives, as well as working with youth, volunteers, or student-led programming, is an asset
  • Experience supporting camps, workshops, or other outreach initiatives is highly desirable
  • Experience working with external partners (e.g., industry, government, community organizations) is an asset
  • Experience with experiential learning, project-based programs, or student advising/coordination in a post-secondary context is an asset
  • Experience supporting or supervising staff, volunteers, or student teams is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support student recruitment and student engagement initiatives, including outreach to prospective students, coordination of some recruitment activities, and development of strategies to enhance student experience and participation in SENS programming
  • Assist in strengthening and maintaining relationships with external partners (industry, government, NGOs, and community organizations), including maintaining a partners database and mailing list, supporting outreach efforts and gathering feedback to inform program and project development
  • Support the implementation and coordination of new and ongoing strategic initiatives within SENS and monitor progress to ensure initiatives are delivered according to established timelines and plans
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a team-based environment
  • Organize and coordinate summer camps and youth programming initiatives
  • Support the delivery of the week-long summer camps and associated activities
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and supervision of student staff and volunteers (including summer staff and volunteers)
  • Oversee camp development and provide guidance and support to instructors, student staff, and volunteers
  • Track budgets and expenditures related to camp materials and program delivery
  • Collect, synthesize, and report on feedback to support evaluation and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and the Manager, Academic Programs, to coordinate the logistical delivery of professional development (PD) courses
  • Ensure courses and activities are delivered within planned timelines
  • Support enrolment management, including responding to inquiries and assisting prospective participants
  • Provide logistical support to instructors, including scheduling, materials coordination, and troubleshooting delivery needs
  • Work with USask’s Extended Learning team to develop, set up, and monitor registration for PD programs
  • Work closely with the SENS Communications Specialist to promote PD courses, summer camps, and other initiatives
  • Support student/learner engagement initiatives by coordinating events, communications, and opportunities that enhance the experience of current SENS students/learners and strengthen their connection to the School
  • Respond to inquiries related to programming in a timely and professional manner
  • Track program activities, timelines, and deliverables to ensure efficient execution
  • Maintain accurate records related to enrolment, participation, and program outcomes, including supporting recruitment and engagement tracking and reporting
  • Work with the ENVS992 placement director to solicit projects from partners and update records in canvas, including signed project agreements, partner feedback to the students and archiving of all final project reports
  • Support additional strategic initiatives and projects as required
