Strategic Content Editor (Contract-to-Hire)

REGEX SEOPhiladelphia, PA
$3,000 - $5,000Remote

About The Position

This role is a contract-to-hire position for a Senior Editor to manage content strategy and quality during a department head's planned leave, with the potential for a permanent senior role afterward. The position requires someone who can quickly onboard, operate independently, and contribute to building the editorial function. The company, RGX, is a digital marketing agency focused on home service businesses, emphasizing a strategy-first approach where every piece of content is accountable to business objectives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience editing strategic marketing content (SEO content, landing pages, email, PPC assets) in an agency or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience editing for performance outcomes, not just polish.
  • Ability to analyze SEO strategy documents, including keyword selection, intent mapping, funnel logic, and content architecture, and identify weaknesses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make editorial decisions without direct supervision.
  • Strong documentation habits to ensure editorial decisions are defensible.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work daily with writers, strategists, and PMs.
  • A feedback style that builds trust and helps writers improve their skills.
  • Direct and kind communication style.
  • Desire for increased responsibility and experience in unofficial leadership roles such as mentoring writers or building processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review and pressure-test content briefs, keyword strategies, and funnel plans before writing begins to identify and correct issues with targeting, search intent, or funnel logic at the earliest stage.
  • Edit drafts to ensure strategic alignment, verifying that copy matches the target persona, the call-to-action fits the funnel stage, and the content satisfies the intended search intent.
  • Develop and implement editing standards, tone of voice guides, and editorial processes where gaps exist, obtaining leadership and team buy-in for new standards.
  • Identify ranking opportunities missed in the initial brief by analyzing SERPs, suggesting structural changes for featured snippets, or flagging unclaimed keyword clusters.
  • Perform quality control as the final reviewer of content, checking for clarity, flow, tone, accuracy, brand voice, internal links, metadata, and formatting, and help formalize the QA process.
  • Provide direct, specific, and actionable feedback to writers that explains the strategic reasoning behind corrections, aiming to improve their skills.

Benefits

  • Full-time conversion includes salary, benefits, PTO, and professional development budget.
