About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is now hiring for a Storekeeper to join their Health Care Center. This role is crucial for supporting Connecticut veterans by managing stock and warehouse operations. The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, with a first shift schedule from Tuesday through Saturday, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. The DVA has a long history of caring for veterans and their dependents, with a mission to "serving those who have served" through various programs including a Residential Facility and the Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center. The Healthcare Center provides long-term care for veterans with chronic, disabling conditions in a supportive and compassionate environment.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in stock or warehouse work or closely related work that could reasonably be expected to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
  • Ability to keep accurate stock records and inventories.
  • Ability to utilize computer software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience receiving, inspecting, and issuing inventory in a warehouse or storeroom environment.
  • Experience maintaining inventory records using computerized inventory management systems, including CORE-CT or similar software.
  • Experience performing physical inventories and reconciling inventory discrepancies.
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience providing customer service while communicating with internal departments, vendors, and delivery personnel.
  • Experience maintaining organized, safe, and efficient warehouse or storeroom operations.
  • Experience verifying incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, invoices, or bills of lading.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and issues stock and maintains records of receipts, requisitions, and stock on hand.
  • Arranges stock in a planned fashion, considering age, accessibility, safety, and security.
  • Clarifies the amount and condition of stock on hand and reports discrepancies or the need for replenishment.
  • Verifies the quantity and quality of incoming supplies against invoices, dray bills, bills of lading, and orders.
  • Maintains housekeeping and security of the stores area.
  • Takes required inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Receives gas station reports and makes necessary corrections.
  • Keeps mileage and maintenance records of vehicles in the car pool.
  • Inspects material handling equipment, scales, gas pumps, and other allied storeroom equipment for accuracy and safety.
  • Codes and inventories furniture and equipment.
  • Operates material handling equipment.
  • May perform purchasing functions for inventory item stock replenishment.
  • May drive motor vehicles as assigned.
  • May enter data into a computer.
  • Performs related duties as required.
