The Storekeeper position is responsible for purchasing materials within a $2,000 limit and in accordance with Purchasing Policies, accounting for approximately 75% of purchase orders maintained at the factory site. They also assist supervisors, mechanics, and other crew leaders in parts identification and vendor sources. Principle accountabilities include maintaining inventories of chemicals, coal, coke, and lime rock to ensure adequate supplies for uninterrupted factory operations while minimizing balances and reducing inventory carrying costs. This role also monitors inventory cycle counts, coordinates monthly engineering firm measurements of material piles, and performs daily use calculations for materials charged to correct accounts. The Storekeeper issues chemicals and major operating supplies, coordinates storeroom staff activities with Shift Supervisors for consistency between shifts, and ensures timely handling of shipping and receiving duties by Storeroom Specialists. They also coordinate duties with the Truck Driver and provide direction for the maintenance of the chemical storage warehouse and the duties of the Materials & Supplies Handler. Additionally, this role coordinates the maintenance of the steel warehouse and participates in reviews of obsolete inventory and proper stocking levels. Overtime may be required as necessary.
