About The Position

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a Storekeeper II to join our Storeroom and Materials Management team. This role involves receiving, inspecting, storing and delivering supplies and equipment, along with maintaining inventory control to support hospital operations. The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

Requirements

  • Experience in a warehouse or storeroom environment of a minimum of one-year full time.
  • Standard storekeeping tracking methods (manual and computerized) for the receipt, storage, issuance and delivery of various stock items including perishable items.
  • Computerized data entry experience is required to maintain control of the above transactions.
  • Experience with standard procedures, methods and materials used in packaging materials for shipment.
  • The proper storage methods such as palletizing, binding, etc.
  • Types and uses of material handling equipment used in warehousing environments.
  • Standard recordkeeping techniques, skills and procedures utilizing a computerized data entry inventory control system to record the above transactions.
  • Principles and methods of inventory control of supplies and equipment.
  • Safety practices and procedures followed in storekeeping or warehousing environment.
  • Various methods used in transporting goods, materials and equipment.
  • Terminology, coding symbols and standard abbreviations used in storekeeping.
  • The methods and procedures utilized for the security and protection of state property.
  • Minimum of one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in storekeeping work in a storeroom, stockroom or warehouse, the major duties of which included receiving, storing and issuing supplies and equipment.

  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the storeroom.
  • Understands Commonwealth procedures governing purchasing, inventory control and requisitioning of supplies and equipment.
  • Competent in the types and uses of manual and computerized agency forms.

Responsibilities

  • Unpack, count, sort and examine incoming goods to verify quality, quantity and condition of goods for conformance to specifications listed on the purchase order.
  • Store supplies and equipment in appropriate storage areas according to size, shape and type.
  • Load and unload trucks, pallets, hand trucks etc. to maintain uniform storage of supplies, equipment and materials.
  • Deliver supplies, equipment, furniture etc. to depts and/or storage areas throughout the facility.
  • Relocate equipment throughout the facility that has been designated as a fixed asset.
  • Take physical inventory of medical and office supplies to determine actual amounts on hand.
  • Maintain a safe and clean storeroom working area.
  • Maintain both manual and computerized records of items received, issued and shipped, including description of articles, type and other identifying information.
  • Operate equipment necessary to load and unload goods, supplies and equipment.
  • Put up orders (issue supplies) for floors from requisition slips.
  • Contact vendors and discuss deliveries, shipments and amounts of any discrepancies.
  • Communicate with various departments as needed with date-to-date operations.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
