About The Position

Wegmans Food Markets is hiring a Store Security Specialist in Syracuse, New York. Store security teams help keep customers and employees safe, and this role serves as a link between the Asset Protection team and store leadership. The position calls for an independent, task-oriented person who can build relationships throughout the store while keeping customer service in mind. The role pays $32.00 per hour and offers a bonus of up to $2,500.

The specialist prioritizes safety, uses trends and data to develop strategies that maximize sales and reduce theft-related loss, monitors activity and apprehends and processes shoplifters, coordinates CCTV systems, responds to emergencies, supports employees and customers, and conducts investigations as directed by leadership. The position also involves collaborating with community partners and emergency responders.

The schedule is full-time, with availability for mornings, afternoons, and evenings, including weekends. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of full-time experience as a sworn police officer with arrest authority in a military, municipal, county, state, or federal police agency.
• Valid license to carry a firearm.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Conflict-management and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound judgment and the ability to manage conflict and communicate effectively under pressure.
• Ability to maintain composure and communicate effectively in stressful environments.
• Strong technical aptitude, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Must be 18 years or older.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
• Related experience, including security and/or loss prevention.
• Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or First Responder experience.
• Leadership experience, preferably in a retail setting.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety in stores to create a positive shopping and working environment.
• Analyze trends and data to implement strategies that maximize sales and minimize loss due to theft.
• Monitor activity to prevent loss, including apprehending and processing shoplifters.
• Foster collaborative relationships with community partners and emergency responders.
• Coordinate and manage the use of Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) systems.
• Respond to emergency situations and provide ongoing support and guidance to employees and customers.
• Conduct investigations as directed by leadership.
