About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the store’s perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The position supports department operations by maintaining perishable stock levels, training associates on product presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, rotation, grading, and repackaging, and recording markdowns and inventory. It also helps address customer needs, uphold sanitation standards, and support other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions and generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience are preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
Must be 21 years or older.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with the store’s financial integrity, including cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using applicable advertisements, planners, order guides, sales histories, and planning tools.
Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
Assist in training associates on safe food handling in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Assist the Store Manager in addressing customer needs and requests efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
