About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The position supports store operations by maintaining perishable stock levels, training associates, managing markdowns, recording inventory, addressing customer needs, and helping ensure sanitation standards are followed. It may also assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions to generate reports.
- Ability to review Operating Statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise-presentation guidance.
- Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery-store experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity, including cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using the listed order guides, planners, sales history, and related tools.
- Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food handling standards.
- Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner, and maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
- Help ensure sanitation standards are followed and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
