About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery departments. The role supports efficient inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, a safe working environment, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager assists with training associates, maintaining appropriate stock levels, handling and rotating products, recording markdowns and inventory, and meeting sanitation standards. The role also supports store security and cash-control procedures and helps address customers’ needs and merchandise expectations. Other operational duties may be assigned by the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions to generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control procedures.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organization skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
- Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
- Required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using relevant ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and vendor tools.
- Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, and product rotation standards.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and promptly, and maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
- Support sanitation compliance and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
