About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen foods, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports efficient inventory management, attractive and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, safe working conditions, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager assists the Store Manager with store operations, associate training, inventory and markdown controls, sanitation, and customer needs. The position also supports other operational areas as directed. Relocation assistance is not available.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control procedures.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity, including cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels appropriate to store volume using current ads and planners, order guides, sales histories, and vendor and bread-planning tools.
Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food handling standards for perishable areas.
Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train associates in produce grading and re-packaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
Help ensure sanitation compliance and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
