About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen foods, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports efficient inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, safe working conditions, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager helps maintain appropriate perishable stock levels, trains associates in product presentation, freshness, pricing, food safety, stocking, rotation, and produce grading and repackaging, and records markdowns and inventory information. The position also supports cash and facility controls, sanitation standards, and timely response to customer needs. Other operational duties may be assigned by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience are preferred.
Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience is preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume, using the specified ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and planning tools.
Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
Train assigned associates in proper and safe food handling in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customers’ needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand their merchandise expectations and preferences.
Help ensure sanitation standards are met and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
