About The Position
The Store Manager is responsible for managing all employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees hiring, training, performance management, store operations, inventory, merchandising, cash and facility controls, customer service, safety, and required paperwork. The manager ensures the store is properly staffed and opened and closed each day, personally opening at least twice and closing at least twice per week. The position involves frequent walking or standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling; handling merchandise and store equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 55 pounds; and occasional ladder use, driving, exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, and freezer cold. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Ability to perform cash register functions to generate reports.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
- Good organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
- Valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves

- One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and Company policies, and ensure adequate staffing.
- Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, address performance gaps through appropriate solutions or counseling, and recommend termination when appropriate.
- Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
- Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
- Ensure the store is appropriately staffed and opened and closed each day; open at least twice and close at least twice per week.
- Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense controls, potential shrink, and errors.
- Manage ordering and inventory to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; follow up on BSR and cycle counts.
- Facilitate merchandise staging, stocking, and storage according to Company processes.
- Ensure merchandise presentation, pricing, and signage follow established practices and fixtures are used properly.
- Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
- Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
- Provide customer service leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
- Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
- Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
- Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
- Drive a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
