About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing all employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees employee recruitment, training, performance, and compliance; store operations and inventory; customer service; financial controls; and a safe, clean, and organized environment. The Store Manager must open and close the store at least twice per week and regularly drive their own vehicle for meetings, visits to other stores, and deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies, and ensure the store is properly staffed.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and take appropriate action, including counseling or termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations and coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
Ensure the store is adequately staffed and opened and closed effectively each day; open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; and follow up on replenishment and cycle counts.
Facilitate merchandise staging, stocking, and storage according to company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including appropriate use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools necessary to perform required tasks.
Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
