About The Position

Responsible for managing all store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The Store Manager oversees employee recruitment, training, performance, and compliance; store operations and inventory; customer service; safety and security; financial controls; and completion of required documentation. The role involves frequent walking or standing and bending, stooping, and kneeling in a fast-paced environment. It may include lifting merchandise, occasional exposure to weather, hazardous cleaning solutions, and freezer cold, climbing a step ladder, and driving a personal vehicle for work-related activities.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in compliance with labor laws and Company policies, and ensure adequate staffing.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, address performance gaps through appropriate solutions or counseling, and recommend pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
Ensure the store is properly staffed and opened and closed each day; open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; follow up on replenishment and cycle counts.
Manage merchandise staging, stocking, and storage in accordance with Company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper fixture use, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
