About The Position

Responsible for managing all employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The Store Manager ensures the store is properly staffed, trained, safe, well-organized, and compliant with company policies and procedures. The role oversees customer service, inventory, merchandise presentation, cash controls, store operations, and required documentation. The position requires regular driving in a personal vehicle to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies, and ensure the store is properly staffed.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and provide solutions or counseling up to and including termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events promoting safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure effective daily store opening and closing; personally open the store at least twice per week and close it at least twice per week.
Evaluate operating statements to identify business trends, including sales, profitability, and turn, as well as expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory management issues weekly; follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Facilitate efficient staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise according to company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, well-organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
