About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and general store needs. The role fosters the development of an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The position includes supporting recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash controls, store maintenance, and paperwork. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors. Working conditions include frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment. The role requires regular driving of the employee’s own vehicle to meetings, other stores, and bank deposits. The environment is fast-paced with moderate noise, and may involve occasional exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions necessary to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficient organization skills with attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations where limited standardization exists.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise; ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices and Store Manager direction; and properly use fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are deposited safely at the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
