About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing employees and planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role ensures the store is properly staffed, opened and closed, operates in compliance with company policies and applicable labor laws, and provides strong customer service. The manager oversees inventory, merchandise presentation, cash handling, security, safety, paperwork, and employee development. The position requires frequent physical activity and occasional travel for bank deposits and meetings.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to use IBM cash register functions to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, and the SAFE program.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations with limited standardization.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling; frequent handling of merchandise and equipment; frequent proper lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds; occasional ladder climbing.
Regularly drive or provide own transportation for bank deposits and occasional work-related travel.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.
High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
One year of retail management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, retain, train, and develop qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies.
Conduct performance evaluations, address performance gaps through solutions or counseling, and recommend pay rates and advancement; termination may be included where appropriate.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events that promote safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is properly staffed and opened and closed each day; personally open it at least twice weekly and close it at least twice weekly.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Manage ordering and inventory, review ordering plans and seasonal direction weekly, and follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Oversee merchandise staging, stocking, storage, presentation, pricing, and signage according to company practices.
Maintain accurate inventory through control of damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Lead superior customer service and maintain a clean, organized, safe, and secure shopping and working environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow company procedures and communications and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive or provide own transportation for bank deposits and occasionally attend management meetings or visit other Dollar General stores.
