About The Position

Responsible for managing all store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The Store Manager oversees staffing, employee training and performance, store operations and inventory, customer service, financial controls, safety, and compliance with Company policies and procedures. The role requires opening the store at least twice per week and closing it at least twice per week, as well as regular driving in a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits. The work involves frequent walking or standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling; some handling of merchandise and equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 55 pounds; and occasional climbing on a step ladder up to six feet. The environment is fast-paced with moderate noise, with occasional exposure to outside weather, hazardous cleaning solutions, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and Company policies, ensuring appropriate store staffing.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and provide solutions or counseling, up to and including termination.
Make recommendations regarding employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events to promote safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is appropriately staffed and opened and closed effectively each day; open at least twice and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, sales and profitability, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory management weekly; and follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Oversee efficient staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise according to Company work processes.
Ensure merchandise is presented according to established practices, using fixtures properly and maintaining product pricing and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, Company security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools necessary to perform required tasks.
Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits.
