About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, merchandising, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position is intended to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and contributes to customer service, staff development, store compliance, financial integrity, inventory control, and safe, clean store operations. The role involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally; occasional ladder climbing and driving for bank deposits, meetings, or visits to other stores; and some travel with limited overnight stays. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including generating reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Ability to interact tactfully and directly with employees and maintain an open forum for exchange.
Ability to travel as needed, including occasional driving for bank deposits, management meetings, or visits to other stores; some travel includes limited overnight stays.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience is preferred for external candidates.
Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities, including recruiting, hiring, and training qualified applicants.
Assist with merchandising, staging, stocking, storing, signing, and pricing merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership and respond sensitively to customer needs.
Model compliance with company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are safely deposited in the designated bank.
Support the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Act as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees and foster cooperation and collaboration.
Support continuous staff development and ensure compliance with federal labor laws and company policies.
