About The Position
The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role provides interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager position and is intended to be held for a limited period. The position may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and requires regular driving in the candidate’s own vehicle to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise, and may involve occasional exposure to outside weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers. Physical duties include frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally; and occasional ladder climbing up to six feet.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
- Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions, including those needed to generate reports.
- Knowledge of inventory-management and merchandising practices.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
- Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficient organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
- Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
- Valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
- Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction; properly use merchandise fixtures and handle signing and pricing.
- Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
- Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
- Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
- Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
- Participate in store opening and closing activities.
- Ensure Company funds are deposited safely at the designated bank.
- Assist in protecting the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
- Assist with keeping stores clean and well stocked and maintaining a safe environment for customers and employees.
- Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
- Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors, including trends in sales, labor, profitability, and inventory turn.
- Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
