About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and general store needs. The position provides interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The candidate assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store operations, cash and security controls, and maintaining a clean and safe store. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and reviews operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities for expense control. The role also involves completing paperwork and documentation according to established guidelines and deadlines. Work takes place in a fast-paced environment with a moderate noise level and may involve exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers. The job includes frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; regular driving of the candidate’s own vehicle is required for meetings, store visits, and deposits.

Requirements

Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions needed to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations where limited standardization exists.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to drive own vehicle regularly for meetings, visits to other stores, and deposits.
Ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 55 pounds.
Ability to occasionally climb a step ladder to heights of six feet.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise; presenting merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction; and properly using fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide superior customer service leadership.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are safely deposited in the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
